Overwhelmed

25 January 2008 [Friday]

Well as you can tell by the 1+ month gap (which I tried to go back and fill in from my last full entry of Dec 10th), I got overwhelmed between pulling my calf muscle at the playground with the kids and now being on crutches, to Carson's birthday party at the YMCA, then Christmas, then New Years, then Ian's birthday (on which he woke up sick and vomitting for the first half of the day) to us hosting the Y-Guides meeting at our house on the 20th of this month (which went great and everyone had a good time). All of this combined with the fact that I was just plain exhausted was too much and I let the blog slip for about six weeks. For that I appologize, especially to my family. Actually they don't even know that I am doing this. They have no idea - the kids wouldn't understand anyway probably, but Amanda doesn't know either. I've thought about that, and when I should tell her it's here....if I were to die tomorrow, no one would ever know and it would eventually be erased into cyber space I presume. I've also thought about going back and printing the whole thing out and continuing this on paper, but I type SO much faster than I write, I fear I would neglect a lot of the details I like to put in - although it may be better if I would just leave those out. Regardless, this entry is in and I hope to continue on.
A quick bit more detail. My leg, to this deal is still healing. Was on crutches for a week, and then pulled it again while trying to limp across a floor quickly to get the truck keys as the car alarm was going off at 10pm at night. Ouch, hurt just as bad as when I first did it. My leg with totally black and blue the next day. Had to have a test to be sure I didn't have a blood clot ($75 out of pocket!). Then saw an Ortho guy. Gave me an air cast which really helped, but looked ridiculous. Then started physical therapy 1x a week at $20 each visit out of pocket. He gave me good stretching exercises. Still continuing at that point right now. At least I can walk normal again, but can't run. And leg gets sore after too much walking.

24 January 2008 [Thursday]

Keegan went on a field trip yesterday to NC State for a play entitle "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" - he enjoyed it and it was nice to hear him talk about it. I actually went to the YMCA around 9pm and just biked by myself to see how my leg would do. Used no resistance and did six miles. Felt good to get back, but bad when I saw everyone else breaking a sweat and I knew I couldn't.

23 January 2008 [Wednesday]

Had a bathroom renovator guy stop by Wednesday. We are awaiting his quote. I'm getting close to trying this project myself. Just in talking to him, helped me understand that we have a good plan, now it's just a matter of getting it done. I think I coud do it, and he said I should at least tear it all out myself to save money, which I will do of course.

21 January 2008 [Monday]

MLK day, so I had the day off as did all the kids and it was Ian's 3rd birthday too, so that really worked out well. Except that Ian work up not feeling well, and threw up two times in the morning. Then on top of that Bullwinkles is closed on Monday and Tuesday and that's where he wanted to go. So since he wasn't feeling good Monday (his actual birthday), we waited until Tuesday to go to Golden Coral. They all enjoyed that of course and had a great time. We'll take them to Bullwinkles next week for sure.

20 January 2008 [Sunday]

Y-Guides meeting was at our house at 3:30pm today. I was stressed getting it all ready..house clean..project picked out, but in the end it all turned out great. Kids had a lot of fun and people liked our project, which was these $1 art crafts from Michael's - a bulldozer. Required glue and painting (at their own houses later). A lot of fun and they had snacks and left about 1 1/2 hours later. Keegan and I earned another patch for cooking Amanda her Fettucini Alfredo dinner and cleaning up the dishes too. We need to do that again as Keegan really liked it. It's so much fun to do these things with him and I am so glad we joined! Carson and Ian will love it as well I hope!

19 January 2008 [Saturday]

Keegan and I had our first annual Polar Bear swim at the YMCA. We had fun, were there for one hour and then he had to stick his hand way down into a bucket of ice water and pull up two white bear claws for us. I'm glad we did it, and it was fun to see our group again. Tomorrow they come to our house for the meeting.
We actually got a dusting - about 1/2 to 1" of snow overnight. Of course we had to go sledding at best we could the next morning. The kids all managed a few runs down the side of our house - about an hours worth before we were down to the grass. It was more of an ice type snow but the tubes and hard plastic sled worked good with a good push for them. I'm happy they got something, but wish for a big snow sometime soon while they are still young!

17 January 2008 [Thursday]

Todd and I went to one of the three public hearings they are having about the school reassignment plan, as our kids are affected and will be taken out of Morrisville and put into the new Laurel Park Elementary school. It is very near our house compared to Morrisville and it is still year round, but we liked Morrisville. Right now I think we are OK with switching them, but worry as it's a brand new school and hope it's organized it's first year. Was interesting to go and hear what people had to say though so we have a better understanding of the process when we read about it and see it on the news coverage.

8 January 2008 [Tuesday]

I volunteer at Keegans school. He "allowed" me to come since my air cast was off and I was walking mostly normal again. I stayed for lunch with them and we had a great time in the lunch room. I tought Timothy, Andrew and Jesus how to thumb wrestle and they thought that was the greatest thing. Keegan told me the next day that they all thumb wrestled again in the lunchroom! That brought a huge smile to my face! :)
Carson had his first and last swim class. He got kicked out of the class for bitting the instructor. It was just horrible, and then asked us to not return with him for six months at least for classes. He just went into a complete panic and I think he thought it was his only way out. Amanda and I were horrified and she made him write an apology note and give it to her. Ugh, it's the first of our parent experiences that was very bad to us...if that makes any sense.

31 December 2007 [Monday]

I took the day off and then at night we had Pat, Dawn, Eric, Denise and their kids over. Was a fun time and I think they stayed until about 10pm! Our kids enjoyed it too! Amanda and I managed to stay up past midnight this year!!!! Amazing. :)

25 December 2007 [Tuesday]

Christmas. Really nice and laid back as we didn't travel anywhere and no one visited. Kids had fun, as did we, just because it was laid back. Was so nice after having traveled on Thanksgiving.

16 December 2007 [Sunday]

Carson had a great birthday at the YMCA. He had a lot of fun, but the YMCA wasn't organized and we weren't impressed, but at least the kids had fun. Keegan is signed up for his April birthday there too as he liked it during Carsons and asked for his to be there, which is fine by us as it's very close and not used a lot for kids' birthday parties, so the parents like to go I think.

15 December 2007 [Saturday]

We went to see "A Nutcracker" ballet at the BTI Center in downtown Raleigh. I got us balcony front row tickets. Kids enjoyed the first half but then started to get restless. I hadn't seen it since the 5th grade and didn't remember a thing and always thought about it, so I wanted to see it again. I enjoyed it and glad we spent the money. Was a pain walking around there on my crutches though! When we came out at night then had fake snowing coming down with purple lights shown on it. Kids loved it and it was a nice touch.

10 December 2007 [Monday]

Pain from my pulled calf muscles suffered while playing at the park with the kids. That's what I get when I jump off a slide about 4' in the air while playing chase with Keegan.
Waiting 5 hours in the emergency room yesterday which was a COMPLETE waste of time and convinced us to not use Western Wake Med anymore. We'll switch to Rex. It's half the distance as well and classified as an Urgent Care so our out of pocket will be $20 compared to $100. Stupid me, wished I would have known that!!!!!!

9 December 2007 [Sunday]

Keegan and I have our monthly Y-Guides meeting at 4pm today. This will only be our 2nd meeting at someones house, but the 5 time or so we have all been together as a group. I'm really glad we joined up as I have a lot of fun with him at these events. So nice getting to spend one on one time with him and see him experience new things.
**Update: Our Y-Guides meeting was canceled! Quite upset. Same member who really doesn't seem to care about Y-Guides time that much from my observations. I'm really going to think about setting up a new trible next year with Keegans new 2nd grade class.
So we decided to meet Eric and Denise at Seagrove park. All was going great until I jumped off a slide while chasing Keegan and heard a pop in my right calf, and my leg collapsed and so did I. Terrible pain. Felt like I was on the verge of passing out for 15 minutes at least. Finally I was able to get up and make it slowly to the car and then Amanda took me to the ER. In hindsight, I would have skipped the ER and gone to my regular Dr on Monday morning. My blood pressure was quite low 103/63 in the ER from shock they said. Of course, that didn't matter. Three HOURS later someone was able to see me. I hate Western Wake. We never have a good experience with the ER the two or three times we've been there. I think we should start using REX now and it's closer too. They gave me crutches, and told me I tore my calf muscle. No duh! Take 800mg of ibuprofen for swelling, which I did, but it was very uncomfortable. I could put no pressure on it, nor straighten it out.

8 December 2007 [Saturday]

I wonder does anyone read this stuff online? I'm not doing it for that, but for my kids really just to get a feel of daily life while they were young. Anyway, Carson has Robbie's birthday party to go to today.
