A Whole Bunch More Part II
-- 26 March 2007 [Monday]
Normal work day so far. Amanda has to go into work tonight for a bit.
-- 25 March 2007 [Sunday]
An outside work day if there ever was one! In the morning I finished up the trim work in the bathroom, then we went and rented an aerator for 2 hours. Man, what a workout! While I ran that, Amanda cut the grass for the first time this year. I used the full 2 hours of the aerator. Really hard to move around and it kept stalling out when trying to go up the hill, which was a real pain. We had lunch and played a bit then seeded later in the afternoon while the kids hauled out the sprinkler and started to play in it since we needed to water anyway. I figured out I like seeding in the spring since there are no mosquitoes yet, so watering at night won't be so miserable as you won't get eaten alive. We have to water for 3 weeks. I sure hope it rains some to help us out. It sure feels good to have it done though as I know we needed to do it. Amanda and I were in bed by 9pm as we were exhausted from working outside all day.
-- 24 March 2007 [Saturday]
Amanda left in the morning for the YMCA to get Keegan and Carson registered for swim class. I'm so excited that they got in. Carson has a morning class and Keegan a night class. Works great for us. I hope they learn to swim great especially with us growing up by the ocean. I left at the same time for the Ural rally at Vista Point at Jordan Lake, NC. I couldn't believe the turnout! what a great group. About 15-20 Urals and Dneprs showed up. Looks like it will be an annual event for sure. I'll do better to bring a lot of food/fire wood for next time. I stayed the whole day and left around 6pm! about 8 hours there talking and viewing bikes and meeting new people. Just a terrific turnout and weather for something thrown together last minute on the Russian Iron website. Got home had dinner with the family.
-- 23 March 2007 [Friday]
I worked as usual. Got the final pieces of the Ural put back together after the kids went to bed. So I'm ready to roll tomorrow morning to check out the rally.
-- 22 March 2007 [Thursday]
Picked up my 2 Moto Guzzi crossovers from the welders shop. They did a great job on them. I'll try them out for fit tonight. Brought my Ural battery to the battery shop during lunch. They load tested it and it's in great shape, so no idea why it boiled over. I'll try hooking it to the battery tender tonight again and see what it looks like in the morning.
When I get home I'm taking Carson out on his alone time tonight. He's elected to go to the bowling alley to play the kid games there and we'll get a plate of french fries too. Just nice to spend a couple of hours alone with him. Carson and I had a great time. We played the arcade games, fed the tickets into the ticket muncher and he picked out a couple of prizes and talked. The bowling alley was totally full from league night. But Carson didn't want to play anyway. We stopped at the food store on the way home for some supplies. Was a great night for us!
-- 21 March 2007 [Wednesday]
Worked from home. Pretty nice day today, mid 60's and partly cloudy. Amanda worked in the morning, then had a dr's appt for a yearly checkup and then went back to work and got home around 6:30pm. I picked Carson up from school. We played outside after Keegan got home. They all had a lot of fun.
-- 20 March 2007 [Tuesday]
Followed a Lamborghini into work for a bit today! First time I have ever saw one out here! way cool for me. Rolled down the window and turned off the radio - car was very quiet. I was disappointed. Then on 1/64 saw a box van totally engulfed in flames on the other side.
Amanda called me at work today to inform me of a big gasoline leak under the Ural! Ugh! Will it ever stop. This is seriously going to get to me if this keeps up. I will soldier on thru this as long as the kids continue to enjoy riding in the sidecar, but after that I think the Ural will go up for sale. :) Got the email today informing me of my time to move to my new cube! Yippee!! Great window seat - 3 big windows to look out again. Best part that I just noticed today was that I have a perfect view of the parking spots I use when I ride the Moto Guzzi to work. It will be nice to be able to glance out and see the bike sitting there.
When I checked the Ural later that night, it turns out the leak was from battery acid! For some reason the battery had been sizzling over and dripping acid all over (a lot!) so I dumped whatever baking soda we had on the bike to minimize the damage and pulled the battery out.

It was a normal work day. Taking keegan out after dinner to play cards at shop and eat treat. We stopped at the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robins combo place. His choice. It was that or the book store where he could get a treat too. But the donut shop won out! (suprise, suprise). He had a hard time deciding between the donuts or ice cream, but finally 2 Bavarian Creme donuts won out (and a white milk to wash them down). I had a Heath Bar sundae which was very good as well (my first choice of a Hershey's Peanut Butter sundae was not available as they had run out). We sat at a high table and ate and read his daily reader book, entitled "My Accident". He did good. I wish I had a picture as there was white powder all over his face, the table and his shirt. :) After eating we played 2 games of SkipBo. It was fun. Felt very wierd at first for me playing cards in a donut place but after awhile it felt normal. Lots of kids showed up around 7pm or so. Like an after dinner treat for many it seemed. We got home at 8pm and Keegan went to bed quickly as it was a long day for him. Amanda and I finished the final grouting in the bathroom, and now we need to wait 3 days for the curing of the grout to finish. After that it's sealing the grout, put up the trim and put the toilet back in! Yeah!!! I got the Ural's throttle cables fixed and finally resolved the bad connection I had in the headlight for the starter circuit. Ending up cutting out a section of wire which had a break and resoldering everything and now all seems well.

I dropped my Mom off at Greyhound bus station in downtown Raleigh. It was our first time in the bus stop and it was much nicer than I thought it would be. We stayed with her until her bus left. It was an hour late. She was in line next to a Irish lady whom lived in Williamsburg. This lady talked a lot and had a temper when the bus was late. We watched as my mom got on board and the Irish lady sat next to her. But my mom said she was nice to talk with the whole ride and helped my mom out a lot when she got in Richmond to make her connection on time. We left the terminal and hit the mall for kiddie rides and ice creme and to return stuff. The kids were excited as they each brought their own money with to spend there. They did good deciding what to spend it on. We got hom and played outside a bit then.
-- 17 March 2007 [Saturday]
We went swimming at the YMCA with my mom. Nice time. Saw a lifeguard jump in the kiddie pool and pull a little girl up who was struggling to gain her footing. At first I saw the mom start to run in, but she slipped. the life guard saw the girl at the same time. All was well. But it was a little scare. I hadn't even noticed the girl having trouble.
-- 16 March 2007 [Friday]
I took a vacation day since my mom was out and I need to bring down my vacation hours. Cold and rainy though which stunk. Took the time to drop off the 2 Guzzi crossovers to get welded and run a few errands while my Mom was playing with the kids at home. Will take them a week or so and $75. Seems high and I'm sure it is, but it's about 1 hour time for both so that seems like a shop rate...especially when compared to what a car dealer charges so I'm not too bummed. If all goes well I will have 2 functional crossovers again. 1 as backup for when this new weld breaks again as I'm sure it will. Worse case is I will figure out what pipes to order to eliminate the crossover as I know I read about that somewhere for my Guzzi.
-- 15 March 2007 [Thursday]
My mom came out to visit and arrived today. Dad stayed home as they are having a ton of work down to their house and my dad is supervising it basically. Out here in NC, it was a beautiful sunny day out. Glad my mom got here early in the morning to enjoy it with the kids outside. I played with them all a bit when I got home from work and before we had dinner.
