Parents Out

-- 14 September 2006 [Thursday]

Ok, at work again. Almost finished. Day went by really slow. Not very busy right now and it drags because of that. So many other things I wish I was doing during the day. Ahhh.

My parents were to arrive today around lunch time to visit for several days. I haven't heard otherwise from anyone so I assume they are at the house ok then. Kids have been very excited of course. Keegan is going to be extra exhausted being that he's in school full time now. Next week will be especially hard since they will have been here for awhile then. I believe they are planning on leaving on Tuesday or so, which works out good with our new carpet being installed next Thursday and I have to get the furniture and carpet pulled up before they come - that will be a huge job, but it enables me to make sure the floor is very clean underneath, that all the old staples are pounded in, screw down some squeaky spots and on top of it, saves us about $225.

I'm giving Amanda a call before I leave in about 15 minutes. She'll order some pizzas that I'm to pick up on my way home. Easy dinners while they are out, especially since our kitchen is very small.

Worked at home as usual today. Busy day non work wise. We had Empire Carpets come out and give us an estimate. We ended up ordering a very neutral Freelize (sp?) from them for the entire upstairs, except the hallway and stairs. I'm excited. It feels good to get it done. Only thing left then is to tile the master bath which we'll probably hire someone out to do unless that become impossible to find. The sales lady that came out was pretty inept, but they had good prices (as we later verified against Home Depots 25% sale - which was about equal to what we paid). I wish Empire had a bigger selection, but I am happy with what we choose. It's so hard to pick a color/style from a 4x6" patch. Whatever we get we know will be better than what we currently have.

We then had a window guy come from The Aluminum Company. We'd like to get some additional windows put in for light downstairs and for a better breeze upstairs. But Yikes, they quoted about $1,500 per window. Much too much for us with the other stuff we want to do. I'll try two more places and see if they are more reasonable, if not we'll make do with what we have.

After I was done with work, we ran out to Home Depot to compare our carpet quote to their 25% sale on carpet at HD. Our price was almost identical it seemed so we felt much better after that and will go ahead with it. Installation day is next Thursday (09/28).
