Mid Week - It's COLD out.

-- 08 December 2006 [Friday]

I can't wait for the weekend! We have two weeks left before this big RMS 4.6.0 project is to be completed at work, and believe me, I'm counting the days! This is the last weekend before Grandma Starr comes out to visit for Carson's 4th birthday. That will be a fun time for all and the weekend will sure go fast because of it.

Very busy day at work in the morning. Got a lot done, but it was stressful.

Keegan stayed home from school today as yesterday after he got home he came down with a stomach bug and was throwing up until about 11pm. Turns out five people were out of school from his class that day all with the same thing, and luckily it only lasted for about 12 hours. So someone transmitted that around. Yuck! Amanda said by lunchtime he was bouncing around and back to his normal self, so she would say "we can still bring you to school you know" - and he would then settle down a bit. :)

We all had a nice dinner together - nothing fancy food wise - it was just nice because the kids sat quietly and ate and talked nice without goofing around.

Whewww, it was cold out this morning. 27F. I know, doesn't sound bad since we came from Chicago, but the weather has been so warm for the most part, that this string of cold days has really set in. They said on Friday that when we wake up it is suppose to be around 20F with a wind chill of 9F. Yikes! I've scrapped the Saturn's car windows for a few days in a row now.

I did not work from home today. Amanda did not have to work, and I'm so busy at work that I came in, since I get so much more done and the network connection is much quicker as well.

The DirectTV man showed up around 9am and installed our new DirectTV dish. Luckily he could use the same mounting location as the Dish Network guy did, so that made it nice. We have realized in this past week just how usefull that DVR is to have with the kids and how we like to watch TV only after the kids have gone to bed.

Nothing special about today. Went to work, Keegan went to school. I did leave work early today to meet a lady who was selling her PlayStation 2, 6 games, 2 controllers and 1 memory card for $80. Meeting went good and the system works great (tried it out after the kids went to bed). It's going to be a Christmas present for them, so that worked out well. I was going to buy it from the GameStop, they have a used system for $109 with only one controller, so I got a great deal!

Got home early then and took all three boys by *myself* to Golden Corral. I've been promising them for weeks that we'll go (Tuesday's is kids' night) but something always came up, or the kids were too tired, etc. So since I got home early we went. It worked out very good and I was so proud of them. They carried their own plate (except Ian of course) and I just spooned the food on which they choose. Keegan was so funny, at the end, he said 'phew - I ate too much'. He couldn't even finish his chocolate milk or ice cream cone! :) Amanda didn't go as she had a ladies night out again with the ladies from Carson's school class. They went to Sushi dinner. Amanda actually liked it, so I was happy to hear that and very happy she took the time to go out. The kids and I did just fine and they were in bed by 8pm and asleep by 8:30pm.

Can't remember what happened this day, but nothing out of the ordinary that I can recall.

This is it! Yes, 'the' day - we finally decorated the Christmas tree with ornaments and strung the lights up around the house and outside - so the kids FINALLY stopped bugging us about it. :)

It was an all day affair - and it was a great day. Cold outside, so it was fun to stay inside all day and decorate. The kids really did good decorating the tree and Ian even had a blast. This was his second Christmas of course, but the first one he can really remember and participate in, and he did great. We got lights strung up all over the inside of the house. As a matter of fact, everyone room downstairs had lights in it, and enough that you don't need to turn on any additional lights. Amanda did a great job hanging lights up on the front of the house, around the garage, and down the porch posts. She also hung them around the inside of our new deck, which makes it nice in back. We've got pictures of course.

Overall this was a VERY enjoyable weekend. I love to see the kids so excited about things. :)

This morning we took it easy and got the Christmas tree out of storage and set it up. This was of course very exciting for the kids. Too exciting as they couldn't keep their hands off the lights that are pre-strung in the Christmas tree and broke two of the strands. Amanda and I had a heck of a time getting them unwound and untapped from the tree so we could replace them. It was not fun at all. I was ready to throw the tree out and now I understand why I see artificial trees in the garbage sometimes. It's not worth the hassle to me to fix them! AGGGHH!

By the time we were done with that mess, it was lunch and we got dressed. Then at 4pm we left for the Apex Christmas parade through downtown Apex. Our neighbors were in the parade as she is trying to advertise her mortgage business for the bank she works at. The parade started at 5pm and lasted a full two hours. We all had a great time, but wish we would have brought some more blankets and hats with. The kids got their full share of candy of course and by halfway through, they were tripping over themselves to get at the candy anymore as it had become such common fare from each passing float. It was a nice fun day and evening for sure.
