Wild Ride

-- 06 October 2006 [Friday]

At work today as usual. Cold and rainy. What a wild and crazy last few days. Carson didn't have school today due to the chemical fire in Apex that we heard about last night. His school is technically in Apex, but just barely. I think it's more to the fact that some of his teachers might not be able to make it in as they may have been evacuated to hotels last night. All speculation on my part as to why his school was cancelled. Keegan had school and I dropped him off this morning.

Was raining when I woke up. Good for our new bushes planted. It has really cooled off today. Dropped almost 25F since yesterday so far. Really feels like fall now! I like it. :)

Amanda is still feeling kind of sick. She was to pick up a presciption for anti-biotics today to hopefully fight whatever she has.

When I get home I'll feed the kids and then have them help me put the table and bench together for our kitchen nook since I finished putting the big seating section together late last night. Felt good to get it done as it's really handy to have that seating in the morning for the kids to eat while Amanda and I work in the kitchen making Keegans lunch, my lunch and our breakfasts as well.

Don't know what's in store for this weekend, weather depending and on how Amanda is feeling. Keegan and I will go out to have our alone time together - as usual he wants to go to Golden Corral. No library, no movie, no different restuarant. But that's OK, as long as we get to spend time together. I must start doing the same thing for Carson as well as he is old enough now. Ian is content with me playing at home with him right now.

Today was a nice change of pace. I got to go to the TISQA conference in Chapel Hill instead of going to work. I heard a couple interesting speakers talk about QA and met a few people. I also got to see Ellen Thompson (Sease) whom I haven't seen in about five years! That was nice. We were close friends at BuildNet as we worked together, but then we went our seperate ways after BuildNet closed down. She's still with SAS and doing well. It was nice to catch up.

When I got home, Amanda was sick. I immediately thought it was from her out patient operation on Wednesday, but Dr. said on Friday (later this week) she didn't think so, as the area was red and infected looking. So Amanda basically went to bed and I played with the kids outside till almost 6:30pm (I got home earlier because of the class) and then they all took baths. I then made them a quick dinner and we cleaned up and read books and off to bed. I then built the corner nook seating area and that felt great. Was nice. House was quiet, cool breeze blowing in the window and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Amanda came down later to eat something and I used her help for a few minutes to hold the final few pieces.

We watched the last news and Apex had a chemical storage facility explosion and was evacuating 17,000 residents! Yikes. Luckily the wind carried it west of us, so we were lucky. Kind of scary thinking about the Nuclear Power plant in Apex and how massive that disaster would be. Reminds me of the show I'm watching on TV called 'Jericho', about multiple nuclear attacks against the US and the fallout and chaos from that.

I can't remember much. I know I went into work and left around 3pm as Amanda had her outpatient surgery at 4pm, which went well. Work was busy while I was there, but it was a beautiful day outside when I came home which was nice.

Ok, not I really can't remember much from this day. I know it was beautiful outside though and I think we went on a walk at night, but I can't remember for sure. This entire week has been so busy I haven't been able to keep up with the entries until this Friday. Sorry.
