One Fish, Two Fish
-- 07 August 2006 [Monday]
Just a normal day of working, we had our quarterly company meeting which was bland as usual, but the food afterward was the best they have had to date. I did try to help my co-worker Nalini diganose why her car in the parking garage would not start. We tried to jump start it without success so she ended up having to call AAA. It appears to be an electrical problem of some sort would be my guess.
Amanda says were are grilling chicken for dinner, so I imagine a night of dinner, play time, reading time for the kids and then lights out.

Sunday was a fun day, no errands really, just fun. We again didn't go to the beach - I asked the kids about it, and I forget who now but one of them said "I want to go fishing"... fishing?! Cool! But before we went fishing we tried the rocket again. This time it fired. I tried a small engine first and it went perfect, floating right back down into my hands without me having to move a step. Ian did fine until the actual launch and then started crying. He doesn't like the 'swoosh' sound it makes when taking off. Keegan wanted to try the bigger engine, so we did that - and lost the rocket in the neighbors tree, waaaaaay up top. It hung there looking down at us. Well nothing we could do but wait for the wind or the tree to fall over. So we set off for Bond Park, located just behind the big subdivision we are attached to. I've been wanting to go again, as I am really starting to enjoy it, but last time I took the kids they only fished for about three minutes and were done. So this time remembering how it was in the past, I didn't bother bringing my pole, which was a good move. Not because they didn't want to fish, but because they kept needing bait, or to be casting but because they needed to have fish taken off their hook!!! Yep, they both caught a fish. Ian of course was not finishing, but sat great in the stroller and watched and didn't fuss one time. Both boys caught Bluegills - according to Amanda - our resident fish expert. She knows fish, trees, flowers, birds better than I, so I just consult with her. I really should learn it someday. I think I would start with fish. We use frozen chicken livers as we have in the past, and today proved successful as wel. Both Keegan and Carson were quite excited to have caught something. Just about every single time we cast, something nibbled, but they each only got one actual hook to real in. Still we all had a great time.
After fishing, we washed up and the new center they have constructed there at Bond Park and then drove to the nearby Wendy's for a quick bite to eat. Neither Amanda nor I enjoyed it. The fries were cold, and the hamburgers not good. We need to stop going there, as we have never had a good 'fast food' experience there for one reason or another, but we eat out so rarely that we forget I think.
After lunch we went back to Bond Park to the playground there, which the kids have nicknamed long ago "The Big Ladder Park". They have this straight up metal ladder there, that's about 15 rungs tall. The tallest ladder in any of the nearby parks it seems, thus the name they came up with. It was H-O-T and H-U-M-I-D ! ugh. Miserable. But we managed to stick it out for about 30-45 minutes, and at one point we had the place to ourselves, no wonder with the heat and humdity. Still the kids enjoyed it despite the sweat rolling down their faces. :)
Headed home and took a nap. Tried to get Keegan to sleep but he wouldn't, so Keegan and I went into the garage to fix his bike from yesterday. He helped with all the wrenching and loved it. We straightened out his training wheels too, and WD-40'd both wheels. He insisted on taking it for a test ride later that night, which we did (we all took another walk). Happy to report it worked much better, he could now coast down hills (before his rear wheel was so overtightened that the bearings were sticking) and his chain stayed put.
When we left for our walk, we checked and the rocket was GONE. But where did it go? I checked all the surrounding trees and yard - nothing. Our guess is either the homeowner whom we know picked it up, or the neighborhood pack of kids got it, and they know it's ours. We'll have to stop over and ask the homeowner if he found it.
Grabbed a quick bath, Keegan again stuck to a shower this time, read some books, told a story about the work people on an electric train when the city power goes out, and lights out.

Ah Saturday, what did we do? Lets see here, I'm having a hard time today (Monday) recolecting...errands. We were thinking of going to the beach again, but the weather was iffy down there and the kids just didn't seem as excited about it as last time, so errands. Before we left in the morning, the kids wanted to shoot off a rocket. Something we haven't done in awhile, so we tried to do that three times, but none of the engines would fire. My guess was the humidity. It's been so humid out for at least a month and the engines and wick have been sitting outside in the garage in it. So I brought all the stuff inside in the air conditioning and figured we'd try again tomorrow. So we left the house heading out to drop off our library books and then swung by Home Depot. On the first Saturday of every month, Home Depot has a free project for kids to do. It's outside in the parking lot when the weather was nice, which it was, and this time it involved the making of a pencil box. Both Keegan and Carson do the projects right now, which involve sanding, gluing and hammering most of the time. Upon completing they receive a pin for that project to attach to their Home Depot apron. They have done this probably eight or nine times now and enjoy it each time. Ian walks around attempting to procure a hammer and if successful starts pounding on any wood he sees. :)
After that, a quick run into Target looking for a bicycle tire without success, and then home. When we got home, we played a little and then I went out to do some errands as no one wanted to come with me. My main objective was to find a replacement tire for Carsons bicycle (which Keegan has been riding). The rear tire was worn down to the cords from skidding of course - it's a 14x2.125 size and all I could find were 16 size tires, until the third store I stopped at had what I needed. A 14x1.75 size which is a bit thinner (easier to pedal), but it would fit just fine. Having just changed my Ural rear tire and tube, I had a bit of practice and the bike tire was replaced within ten minutes without pinching the tube. I actually used my tires irons a bit and they came in handy. Suprising to me since it was just a bicycle tire.
After that was done we played around a bit, had some dinner and then went for a walk with Keegan riding his 'new' bike (the bigger one with 16" tires we got for him). Low and behold about one long block from home and he was peddling up a slight incline in the sidewalk, his chain skipped off the sprocket. He thought this was great! So while I pushed Ian in the stroller with the left hand, I pushed Keegan with my right hand, trying at the same time to keep the two of them from coliding (amanda has early walked home with Carson since he was tired and wanted to be carried the rest of the way which wasn't flying with either of us). While pushing Keegan back home, he of course peddled as fast as he could thinking it was cool how easy the pedals turned now. :) Poor Amanda and Carson were waiting in the driveway for us, since we both forgot I had the garage door opener.
