Playing Catch Up
-- 21 August 2006 [Monday]
This was Carson's first day back at Language Tots preschool for this year. He's going to go three days a week for a half day (MWF). This morning he sure did not want to go. He got in the truck without shoes or a shirt on, and not happy. I think it's worse because Keegan is tracked out now, so Carson knows Keegan will be home playing. Amanda told me later that he just cried and didn't want to go once she got there to drop him off, but when she later picked him up at 12:15pm, he was doing just fine as we knew he would. He just doesn't take to school like Keegan did, but it's good for him to play with others besides Keegan.
Work went fine. I called on a house that Amanda and I drove by yesterday at 111 Judges Bench Court in Morrisville. Looks nice from the outside, but the neighborhood is kind of bland. I still went ahead and scheduled a walk thru for tomorrow afternoon at 4pm. It's a five bedroom newer house in our price range so we need to take a look. There is nothing else that we hand found so far, but we aren't looking that hard either since we are so torn as to what to do.
Amanda scheduled someone to come look at our kitchen tomorrow to give an estimate to redo it. No idea who it is as she scheduled it without my knowing.

Had a very nice day overall. We started by playing in the morning, waiting for Playspace to open at 1pm. So we drive down there, and it turns out they were closed for the day to the general public. Something about a special day for kids entering kindergarten this week. That was very disappointing, so we instead went over to Pullen Park to ride the train (two times!) and play a bit. It was very hot in the sun, but we found some shade and stayed for just a bit over an hour.
Stopped at a nearby McDonalds on the way home to treat the kids to milkshakes and french fries. Really I wanted them to have lunch but that didn't work out. They really enjoyed their milkshakes and fries. I showed them how to dip their fries in their shakes. Mmmm. Amanda thinks it's gross though.
Stopped at a house for sale on the way home. Picked up a flyer for it, and I'll call the realtor tomorow to schedule a walk thru. We still don't know wether to fix our place up or buy a new place with more room. Aggghhhhh.
Kids got a bath when we got home. We were trying to wait until the Boil Water order was lifted, but they were so dirty it couldn't wait any longer. Left a dirt ring in the bath. Amanda had bleach (8 drops per gallon) as instructed. It was a quick in, wash and quick out. No play time. The kids (especially Keegan) were very tired anyway. Ian fell asleep at 6:30pm and was down for the night and the other kids went to bed at 7pm and were asleep by 7:30pm. Nice change for once for Amanda and I.
We found out the Boil Water order was lifted for us last night!!! Hoooray! What a pain that was. You don't realize how convienent clean water is until you don't have it. Man that made it easier once it was lifted. Just washing the counter, your hands, the kids' face, etc.
We watched the movie "Troy" last night. I really enjoyed it, Amanda liked it but not as much as I from what I can tell.

We just stayed around the house in the morning. Still under the Boil Water order.
Keegan had a birthday party for Emma at 1pm at "Pump It Up" so I took him to that. He had a good time seeing his new friends from Kindergarten and I got to put some faces with names there. We hear about Timothy and Alex. B. all the time. Met their fathers as well.
On the way home Keegan actually fell asleep in the car. I couldn't believe it. :) Of course when we got home he woke up again, but was dragging for awhile. So since he was awake we went to the Kitchen and Bath rennovations store in downtown Cary. Pretty nice place, but I didn't care for the salespeople. We then went over to the downtown library and with good timing had 20 minutes before they closed. So the kids picked out some books and I got myself the "Nickel and Dimed On (Not) Getting by in America" book that I have wanted to read for a couple of years now and just kept forgetting about.

Went to work in the morning as usual. Rode the motorcycle in. Amanda called me around 11am and said the Saturn had broken down in the Home Depot parking lot in Apex. Ugh. Sounds like a dead battery. She was able to get our neighbor Todd to come pick her and the kids up (Keegan was in school). So I left work and headed home. She had to leave all the windows down as the car wouldn't even power up anymore. Luckily no rain came, but it sure looked like it all day. We decided to wait until Keegan was home from school before going to fix the car that way we would have one less back and forth trip to make. It turned out to be the battery as I though, and we got a new one for $58 from AutoZone. Now if this new battery will last the seven year as the the Sears DieHard we had in there, that would be terrific. That old battery did us good. Luckily it was a good breakdown spot as well compared to the side of some road. So the past three times the batteries have died (once in the truck, two times in the Saturn) Amanda has been driving. :) All three times have been good locations. The truck broke in our driveway and the Saturn first at Target and now at Home Depot. Of course the kids loved the adventure today of fixing that in the middle of a parking lot.
Found out from our neighbor as we were leaving to fix the Saturn that the town of Cary had issues a Boil Water order! Yikes. They found e-coli in the water supply. What a pain this is. We have never had to deal with this before, ever, that I can remember. With messy kids it's a real pain!
